Ridiculous!

This video is Ridiculous with a capital R! Yes, it is the second post for The Human Show in the same day - a rare occasion but it had to be done. I first saw this video a week or so ago but it struck me again today and needed to be shared.

Surfin' Bird Christmas No.1 2010 starring Matt Whistler from Convict Films on Vimeo.

Underwater

What is deep under water? I think that the bottom of the deep end of the neighborhood swimming pool is pretty deep under water - 12 feet. I read this article yesterday about a guy who set a record for free diving over 100 meters deep on one breath of air!!! What is that he did? Yes, that is what my reaction was.
I just thought that this was a pretty amazing feat and worthy of being shared here at the Human Show.

Avoidance

This is probably the most original post I have made to any of my blogs this year!

Yesterday afternoon, I was walking up a stairway and came across a little orange cone with a wet paint sign on it. I saw no places where paint looked wet and couldn't smell any wet paint, hmmm.

I looked at the stairs and there was a bunch of spilled spaghetti and meatballs all around the sign and on the stairs above and below it, hmmm.

I then thought for a moment and realized that there was no wet paint, but rather there was a spill and instead of cleaning it up...someone got a "wet paint" cone/sign. What...Why...Huh...

My best guess is that they got this sign because they couldn't find a "wet floor" sign but think about this for a moment. How many "wet paint" signs do you ever have just lying around? It probably took more time and energy to find that sign and leave the mess to be cleaned by the janitorial service than it would have taken to get some paper towels from the nearest restroom and clean it up! AVOIDANCE

Here is the picture I took of the situation - enjoy! Just a side note "Pintura fresca" sounds like it should be a happy greeting so maybe now I will use this to greet friends - don't worry, only the ones who speak spanish will be confused.

Ryanair = Ridiculous

So you go to the airport, your flight is delayed, your flight takes off - where do you expect to end up?
Apparently for Ryanair, a European low-cost airline, it doesn't really matter. There is no way that the airline didn't know the length of the flight time and that taking off at the time they did that their destination airport would be closed! But, that is what they did anyway!

OK, so that is pretty strange/weird/stupid of Ryanair right? What else could they do to botch this? It wouldn't seem like much more but that is when the incredible Ryanair flight crew sprung into action - or rather inaction! They apparently didn't notify passengers during the flight that the destination airport closed for the night so they just stopped flying and landed at a different airport - in a different country even!
What? You might be asking what is going on, is this some crazy story he is making up? NO, I am not making it up and it gets even better! Upon landing at the new airport (not the destination) the flight crew left the plane but the passengers protested and didn't leave because they weren't notified of this change of events or what else was going to happen. The passengers stayed on the plane for 4 hours until the middle of the night after the crew left the plane and turned off the power and lights. Way to go Ryanair! That is customer service! So the toilets were locked and there was no food or water for the passengers, another win - or collossal fail for Ryanair!

OK, I didn't make this up but here is the article I read about it and Ryanair didn't have a comment (surprise) but hopefully they will be in true form when they do comment and have something so idiotic that it rivals this story of repetitive failures. I love to write about stupid people (in this case an entire company and their employees).

Kardashian Kard

So from the land of ridiculous, now apparently a hybrid of Wall Street and Hollywood, comes one fo the silliest products EVER! I read an article today about this and thought how incredibly silly anyone who gets one of these is and how savvy the Kardashian agent who set this up is. Yes, even the spelling in the blog title is correct, yet makes me shake my head at its level of WTF factor.
Here is the website for the Kardashian Kard. Even with The Human Show being amenable to editorializing, I try to just present the silliness that is in the world without my own opinions but I can do nothing but state emphatically that this is insane. Oh well, maybe I will be in the majority on this one, or more likely, I will be proven to be out of touch with what the masses want to waste money on.

Dreamhome?

I found and read this article today and was interested in looking at the house because the initial picture looked very nice. There was also a catchy headline - $400000 house costs $6 million.

Apparently this couple really had their hearts set on what they wanted. They started with a $400000 budget and an architect and now over 7 years later and nearly (but not yet) completed they are over $6million spent and on architect #4. There are several parts of the article that made me laugh out loud, literally! Here is one of them, the house is set against a hill and at their insistence the windows open up toward the hill unlike nearly all other houses in similar environs. The owner maintains that this provides the best views of the forest!

How many microwaves would you like in your kitchen? You will have to read the article to see how many were requested and what the end result in the kitchen is.

Soon there will also be some very cool treehouses that will be solar powered as well.

Overall it looks like a pretty cool house even if the quirks came to be pretty darn expensive.

Snow Angel Celebration

On a lighter note today, here is a great goal celebration by youth hockey players. Here is the brief piece about the celebration and how the mini-game was played between periods at an NHL match.

If this doesn't make you smile then reading the piece in the link above about why they did it will definitely do the trick.

Political Silliness

It is a sad commentary on our society and the political landscape when a story such as this has made it to my attention and now to The Human Show. Apparently Barack Obama will not visit a Sikh temple when he visits India soon. This is a major tourism site and because all visitors must wear the Sikh head covering the political aides at the White House have deemed it bad politics to allow pictures of the president wearing the head covering. Here is an article about this.

It is unfortunate that people would attempt to exploit those types of completely benign photos and it is equally unfortunate that the president is not standing up to that, but rather caving and in effect shunning this opportunity to visit a prominent site in India related to a peaceful religion.

To the Surface...and Beyond!

Today the first of the Chilean Miners that were trapped after a mine collapse this summer will come to the surface. Here is the article about this important update. I preused a couple of articles yesterday about the order of who would come out first and how their families on the surface were squabbling with each other but this is the most important part, their return. The picture below is of the capsule they will be retrieved in, this was during a test.
Here are the previous posts here at The Human Show about this epic, months-long story of survival.

It has been 68 days, which is impressive since early estimates said it could take 3-4 months to get them out. Just a great story about humans and still, for me the most impressive aspect is how they survived for 17 days before first contact with the surface and they did it on 2-days worth of food. Just incredible!

Banned in China

I never thought I would be able to get The Human Show to be blocked in China but it probably is now that this post is up. In a brief but truly humanity centered Human Show post, I am further sharing the ubiquitous news that Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has won the Nobel Peace Prize. Here is one of the many articles about this news but this one gives a good bit of background and has links to a picture slideshow.

No Bank? Big Fees!

This isn't necessarily the typical Human Show posting but I think it is appropriate for this blog anyway. Today I read an article about a journalist who spent one month living her life without a bank. I will let you read the article but if I haven't given you enough information, here is a little more. She suspended her direct deposit so she had to cash paper paychecks and did so at check cashing outlets. She didn't use her credit or debit cards and got prepaid cash cards at drugstores to use instead and she paid rent with money orders. She explains all of the different types of fees she incurred in this experience, it was quite a bit. Some of the fees and the amounts of the fees might make you think that money could have been better spent if it was used as in the picture above.

Stiletto Racing?

I saw this video about stiletto heel relay racing and there was nothing that could be done to keep me from posting it to The Human Show! Here is the link to the video. I thought it was pretty impressive how fast they were running and also that there were no broken heels or tragic falls while running (at least in the video piece). Here is another little article but the video is more informative!

Katy Perry Follow-up

This morning totally unexpected to me I saw an article link picture of Katy Perry in this Elmo shirt. Apparently it was on SNL over the weekend but I have to play the part of the disconnected "old guy" on this since I didn't watch it and in reality I know very little about Katy Perry as well. Oh well, I still enjoyed this piece I read this morning along with the funny pictures of her many crazy outfits.

Sesame Street & Katy Perry

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read in a very long time so it had to be posted on the Human Show. Sesame Street has celebrity guests on all the time, this should be no surprise but when something like this that is so benign and silly it makes you just wonder about people and their common sensce.

The article I read is here and it is about a video of Katy Perry singing and running around in front of a cartoon city with Elmo that was posted on Youtube by Sesame Street as part of promoting the upcoming season. Parents who watched it then began to comment on Katy Perry's clothing. Shocking that people would get upset over practically nothing, right? I mean, like half of the muppets walk around without any clothes in all of their bare furry glory!

I have the video below and I only watched about half since it was so silly and half of the words and the context of the song were already changed to make it appropriate for the show anyway.

More Miners

Remember the Chilean miners that are trapped in their mine that I posted about last month? I have read at least an article a week about them and how the progress is coming toward their return to the surface. This week I read an article that I felt would be good for The Human Show.

This article was about how the miners, who have been trapped for over 40 days now, have received over 1000 job offers once they return to the surface. This is quite a big show of support from other employers and the jobs they are offering aren't underground, which might have been a hard sell for them anyway once they return to the surface.

One low point in the article that I hadn't heard about yet was that the mining company they had been working for has filed bankruptcy saying it can't even pay the miners. Now after being stuck for well over a month and probably a couple more months before they will get out, they aren't even being paid and they have to work around the clock in shifts to remove the debris from the drilling that is being done to rescue them. I guess they are working quite literally for survival.

I am sad for the miners and their families but I am encouraged about humans in general as this goes on and these men show some of the best character in the history of human kind!

Dog Yoga?

This post isn't specifically about people as I usually aim for the Human Show to be.

Yesterday I was intrigued by an article on yoga for dogs. I wasn't able to read it at the time and I can't find it now but during my internet search, I was surprised to find as many sites about Doga (dog-yoga)!

One of them (Yoga4dogs) offers a video for sale so you can do doga at home with your dog.
Another site was selling calendars of dogs in yoga positions(above).
Here is a brief article from a few years ago as well.

I guess this post to the Human Show is relevant as the dogs aren't going to take the class or do the positions on their own and this demands the human interaction.

Gravy Wrestling...?

The World Gravy Wrestling Championships have been held at a pub in Lancashire, UK. I was puzzled by this, when I heard about it and ultimately I had to dig a little deeper to unnderstand why jello and mud wrestling aren't enough for these people, they apparently need more!

Here is a video of the spectacle, it appears that they dress up in silly costumes as well, I'm not sure why the costumes are needed, perhaps to make it more ridiculous than wrestling in gravy???

Between the Legs!!! AGAIN!!!

Last year at the 2009 US Open, Roger Federer had an amazing between the legs shot as you can see below. This year at the same tournament he has had another, you can see it in the bottom video. Just awesome!

Super-Human!

I think that this story is so good it doesn't matter how many times someone reads about it. As with my earlier Human-Show post, this was also something that was big on the news yesterday and I watched it at home.
The 33 Chilean miners who had been trapped by a cave-in for 17 days were reached by rescuers with a tiny drilled hole. The miners had only 2 days of food in their shelter-in-place special shelter. As in the article I read today they were so disciplined that they had not only stretched the food supply 15 additional days but they still had some left.

It is so difficult to imagine that they are more than a half-mile below ground and the plan is to bore a hole big enough to lift them out. That is a long way to be hoisted out especially since it will take a few months to bore out a hole that big for them so they will have to stay put for now.
The story about how they have survived and how they will have to continue to survive until they can be retrieved is such a great story about human determination and survival, I hope this doesn't fall off of the grid of news in the time between now and their return to the surface.

Fast Crash!

Yesterday morning before I left for work, I saw a quick video about this crash but I didn't end up with time to post anything about it. The video below is better because it shows the remains of the car and has more information than the initial video.

Duct Tape Prom

Today I read an article about a contest for college scholarships that involves making the best prom clothing with duct tape. I have no idea how I came to decide to read this article but now I am posting about it here!

The article is here and it has a slideshow of the winners and some of the honorable mention outfits. There were over 200 submissions from across the US and Canada and once it was narrowed down to the top 10 there was voting for the winner.

Here is the link to the scholarship contest website.

It is definitely worth checking out the pictures of the outfits!

Critter Management/Gator Wrestler

OK, so after a long pause here at The Human Show I am back with a new post. This post came out of an article I read about a 500 pound alligator that was removed from a South Carolina lagoon. Though I think it is interesting and sounds like a big gator, I am less interested in the gator and more interested in the three "gator wrestlers" that it took to handle the gator!

I thought to myself, is this a real job, gator wrestler? They listed the name of the company that did the gator removal in the article as well and it was Critter Management Inc. I went to their website and most of the animals they deal with sound pretty normal except the gators. Here is a description from their site about the animals they service:

"Critter Management, Inc. services bats, rats, mice, flying squirrels, gray squirrels, feral cats, fox, deer, alligators, raccoons, opossums, armadillos, snakes, otters, hogs, birds, and other low country critters."

I couldn't find a jobs page on their website but there probably wouldn't have been any "gator wrestler" positions open anyway. Wait, what do I know? There may be a lot of demand for people to handle those pesky gators...note to self, potential career to explore!

China Oil Spill

OK, so Enviro-Sustain is a better platform for a post about an oil spill but there are a couple of pictures from this spill that really can only be posted here on The Human Show. Here is a Chinese firefighter saving another firefighter who is in the spill!

I can't find any real news on how he is doing but I guess he survived.

Dogs

OK, so usually, actually always this blog is about people. I will try to find more print stories in the future since it has been very video based recently but today's post and video is specifically about funny dog videos. I think I can add it to The Human Show because there are several instances in this that stupid or silly parents (usually not in the video) let their kids and dogs interact in crazy ways. Then the fact that people actually shot all of these videos! Enjoy and look for the floating dog!!!

OK, so backyard badminton is not very exciting, though it can be fun. Check out professional badminton!

OK, so here is a first for my blogs, I am posting only the video here on The Human Show and on the Mullet of Blogs I will post more about the video so check it out!!!

I am right!!!

You may not be wrong but I am right!!!

Recycling Wedding

So this post could very easily be posted to my enviro-sustain blog but I liked the human element in this story a little more than I liked the recycling and living green element. This couple collected and saved aluminum cans to pay for their wedding. Apparently they kept them on their porch and in the end they needed 400,000 cans to get the $3800 that they needed for the wedding. Over a ton of cans were hauled away but a little over half of the cans needed were donated by two major donors, that is still a lot of cans.
I think that many opportunities like this exist, for instance at one of my jobs there is no place to recycle anything other than cardboard but if there was a small receptacle that employees could recycle cans in and have a group or organization take them away would be great!!!

Brian Gaynor

Since the Human Show is a blog of all things human, I feel this must be posted here! I have seen Brian dance on several shows over the last several years and each time seems more impressive. I recommend that you see some of his other pieces too. This is a bit about his audition for So You Think You Can Dance and is phenomenal.

Heaviest Woman...

This article was disturbing and ridiculous. The article was titled Woman Striving to be World's Heaviest. Even though she seems self-aware enough, because she admits her desire for attention and food, in my opinion there is something amiss here. Already having Type II Diabetes and continuing this, not being able to function normally (shower, cook, etc.) there is no way that this should be encouraged by Guinness, which she has applied for a couple of world records with, or any reality tv producers as she wants to pursue a show about herself. Oh well, I guess even though I think it is an unfortunate commentary on our society at least there is room for every single person to carve out a little piece of the world for themselves.

World Cup Fans

As with this morning on No-Profundity, I thought it would be good to share more of the wacky World Cup fans. They are all using the much reviled vuvuzela in these pictures but I need to say "Huh...?" about the outfit the Japanese fan is wearing!

World Cup Weekend!

Since it is World Cup Weekend at the blogs, I wanted to share a couple of commercials here on the Human Show. Here is a great World Cup 2010 Advertisement that is brilliant for its simplicity!

Here is a Pepsi World Cup advertisement.

While this last advertisement is great, I have never been and never will be a Nike fan though I am an England fan and Wayne Rooney fan!

People Did It!

This posting isn't specifically about any great or impressive individual or mocking an individual etc. This post is actually a list from a site I happened upon this evening!

It was about 50 Bizarre US Laws. Unfortunately humans are exclusively responsible for the stupidity, ridiculosity (yes I just made that word up) and (nearly) unbelievable nature of these laws.

What is really great about this list is they selected some of the silliest laws not some of the most out of date or morally objectionable laws or even the most unenforceable laws.

They also went state by state so nobody would be left out, what a great idea, I am sure they could have found 50 in the Carolinas alone!

Here is a short selection:

Alabama
It’s illegal to wear a fake mustache that causes laughter in church.
Arkansas
It’s illegal to mispronounce the name of the state of Arkansas.
Colorado
It’s unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor (Denver).
Connecticut
A pickle cannot actually be a pickle unless it bounces.
Florida
If you tie an elephant to a parking meter, you must pay the same parking fee as you would for a vehicle

That last one is important for all of you elephant drivers out there. Maybe if you have been reading No-Profundity, one of my other blogs, you will have noticed it's post today was on elephants.

Headbutt!!!

OK, anyone who watched the 2006 World Cup will remember the moment late in the final match when Zinedine Zidane from France, headbutted Marco Materazzi from Italy and was red-carded. Ultimately Italy went on to win the game. Here is the original video!

This morning I found an article about some commercials for a European online betting company. Here are the commercials, I found them to be funny but they were banned in Austria!

Stupid!

Sorry, no pictures in this post but you might be interested in this article if you are a cynic! My status as a cynic, means I was not surprised a bit, though still bothered by ignorance!

If you are an optimist you may feel a little dejected after reading about these poll results.

Here is the article titled: Most Americans Can't Name One Supreme Court Justice.

A few selected results below:

"More Americans could identify Michael Jackson as the composer of "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" than could identify the Bill of Rights as a body of amendments to the Constitution."

"A third mistakenly believed that the Bill of Rights does not guarantee a right to a trial by jury, while 40 percent mistakenly thought that it did secure the right to vote."

You can read more but you get the picture, right?

Social Commentary

I read a disturbing and in my opinion STUPID piece today. The link is here to a story about woman who fell asleep on a plane and was left on it after the flight was done.

My first thought was, that this would be insane for the cabin crew to do. After reading this brief piece and finding out it was on a flight from DC to Philly (which is a 1-hour flight) I have little sympathy for this woman. If she was so deep in sleep that she was unable to wake up or feel the extremely rapid change from takeoff to descent and landing, then the commotion of deplaning she must have been so asleep that even if the crew tried to wake her they wouldn't have succeeded. Once the 1-hour flight ended, I am extremely confident that there were no connecting flights leaving since it landed after midnight. What did she expect to do when she got on the plane, not have to be alert, navigate the airport and transfer to a hotel or whatever? Could she have possibly taken a sleep aid or something?

It says more about our society, and her and her lawyer that she is suing the airline for false imprisonment, emotional distress and negligence. I have not watched the video at this link because I can only handle a certain amount of stupid in a single sitting but maybe she redeems herself and answers why she couldn't operate like any of the other humans on her flight!!!

Dumbest Thing Today!

Short, ridiculous article - click here!

The Human Show Begins!

Here it is, the fourth blog in my stable! This blog will be about humans - good, bad, awesome, stupid, smart, dumb, etc, etc, etc!!!
You get the picture! Probably lots of pictures and videos on this blog with very little exposition!

The pictures here today are from Despair.com
